What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access, if not no updates.

I don’t think that the ZOOM X5 ADSL has a full firewall it only checks inbound traffic, so you need to protect yourself from unauthorised outbound traffic.
Since there isn’t any effective outbound checks I can’t see how the avast.setup is being blocked, it just uses a standard port 80 connection to get updates.
Try doing a manual update (right click the avast icon, Updating, iAVS Update) and explain what happens or post any error message ?
This what I Do . when I right click the avast icon, Updating, iAVS Update Nothing happen no massages
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast 4.7.817 and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.
