I wanted to know if Avast’s database update only updates once a day. Here in Brazil at the moment it is Friday, December 29th, 2023. But the image below that I took was updated on December 28th, 2023, I have already updated it several times and it says that there is no update available.
The question is, does Avast update once a day?
It should be the same as other antiviruses every hour at least.
Why is Avast only once a day?
Last but not least, in seeking perfection, we will release the Continuously streaming update (CSU) technology or, in other words, we will see 300 to 400 daily virus definition updates, almost one each 3.75 minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year.
All that information sent from our Community IQ, allows the avast! Virus Lab to send streaming updates around the clock. These nearly instantaneous updates are malware detection “signatures” as well as advanced detections numbering in the hundreds per day.
“avast! 2014 is a big step forward,” said AVAST Chief Technology Officer Ondřej Vlček. “We now stream more than 250 micro-updates to active devices each day to improve zero-day detection and prevention. By protecting the most devices we have the best insight into the threat landscape, and that translates into better protection for our users.”

For a start your image indicates that there was more VPS updates than one on that day, this figure is broken down as DD/MM/YY/NN - Day, Month, Year, Number of updates that Day.
Given the time of year there may be fewer. However, as Pondus mentions there are also the Streaming updates, very tiny update every few minutes to keep what ever version of the VPS check that also, see attached image.
Note: knowing how the Avast VPS update function works I don’t spend much time checking the User Interface. If something is well overdue, you should get a notification to check for updates.
