update packages has failed

What does “Function setface update packages has failed. Return co…” mean?

Leukon

Basically that the auto update failed.
Is this happening frequently and are you getting errors displayed to the screen ?
If not (and you are just looking at the log) I wouldn’t go chasing it.

Are you able to do a manual iAVS Update ?

DavidR,

This update problem occurs several times a week, sometimes 4-5 times in a day. This shows up in the log, but no errors to the screen.

Does this have something to do with the errors?: the computer does not have the little box that slides up by the system tray and a voice telling that there has been an update.

A manual update is very hard on dial-up. I can do it, but the download takes time.

Well a manual update (right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, iAVS Update) should be no harder on dial-up than an auto update as they are both incremental, I’m on dial-up too.

So try a manual update and reoprt.

If it fails too - Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Manual update just showed that the update is already up-to-date. Apparently it is working okay. The log is just reporting connection errors or something. I’ve reset the update to every 1440 minutes. That may produce the little slide-up box and voice. Thanks for your input again. I guess I’m off and running. I really like the Avast! much better than AVG - seems more secure. I’ve added SuperAntiSpyware and gotten rid of Ad-Aware.

I won’t let it that long to happen… maybe twice a day, 720 minutes

I can’t make update too. Last update was on october, 28th in the morning. I tried to do it manually, but it failed. I tried to remove and re-install avast, but nothing happened and I can’t remove avast. Up to now I hadn’t any problem with this program.
Could you give me an help? Computer seems to work normally, but some days ago avast identified and blocked a virus (ckvo) coming from a USB MP3. Is it possible any other virus is working on?

First why did the update fail, what errors were displayed, etc. ?

Second how did you try to remove avast ?
You should use windows add remove programs, if you did, what errors were displayed ?

You could have first tried an avast Repair, but I fear that you may have messed up the uninstall so that probably won’t be available.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.

  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 above failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.

  3. install the latest version, reboot.

Thanks, I re-installed succesfully avast.
