update period in Avast 5

Hi all!
Is the update period (minimum 30 minutes) the same in Avast 5 as it is mentioned in the thread about avast4.ini http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=1647.msg10264#msg10264

I have recognized, that after 30 minutes Avast 5 doesn’t try to update (last update attempt e.g. 40 minutes ago…)

The update period is 4 hours for Avast! Free and 1 hour for both Professional and Internet Security.

It’s 4 hours, but remember, avast! also checks for updates on new internet connections. So, whenever you power up computer and go to internet, avast! checks for updates. And then every 4 hours when you’re keeping your system running. Most of other AV companies only check for updates every 24 hours without any check for internet connection.

thanks for the answers. But where is the value of 4 hours documented?
In version 4.x the value was 30 minutes as linked in my first post.
Why is there the possibility to change the value in the program, if it is a fix one?

I am using Avast pro, assume same settings in Free version. Not sure if this what you are after :-[

I changed the updating time
open gui
Click settings
Click updates
Click arrow in details to open up details
Put what time interval in Auto Update Every
See attachment.

You can increase the value, but decreasing will not yeld any results as the 240 minutes is the lowest value you can use. Just leave it at default.

I had changed it to update every 2 hours (120minutes) just after i updated to version 5 and every 2 hours if i check maintenance it will say last update attempt and on occasions when it has updated it states time etc when updated.

I would consider myself just a novice when it comes to computers, so just wondering if maybe i have something wrong with my installation of avast5.

understood, but why has Alwil changed the settings?
I suggest to update the help file so that everyone knows the minimum interval.

The minimum intervals currently are like this:

Free AV: 120 minutes ( = 2 hours)
Pro AV, IS: 15 minutes
