Update problem! Avast on Virtual Machine

Hi!

I need help

I installed Avast Home on Windows XP Home, running on VMware Virtual Machine. Avast always fails to update. I used the VMWare server 1.0, the free version.

I have checked the proxy setting, set to Auto Detect (use IE settings), and the Test Connection was successful.

When I tried to initiate update from the tray icon, nothing happened, no message at all.

Then I tried to download the vpsupd.exe manually, save it in the virtual machine folder, and run it. I got this error message:

ā€œInstaller program is currently used by another process. Try again later, please.ā€"

I donā€™t understand, what process should be killed to make it work? Or is it a known problem?

Thanks for any support and input!

Regards,

Just an update to this issue.

I was trying to uninstall Avast from my virtual PC, to try other free anti virus like Clam Win. When I click ā€œChange/Removeā€ button from Add or Remove Program, beside uninstall, there was an update option. So I tried the update option, and it works

The problem seems to solved now, I tried to update again using the tray icon, and it gave report of the update. Not like previous condition where it didnā€™t show anything when I tried to update.

Regards,

There is also an option called ā€˜Repairā€™ thereā€¦ you can ā€˜repairā€™ your damaged installation this way. Most of the times, it works 8)
