Avast antivirus’ auto update doesn’t work and Windows warned anti virus software is old.
So I tried to update manually, but failed it with the following message.
I also tried to reinstall but I failed to delete of Avast antivirus with error.
I registered Avast antivirus in the windows firewall to access.
Thank you for your kindly help.
Please, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
Also check:
If your subscription allows the update right now (i.e., if it is not expired). Home (free) version need registering each 14 months.
If your firewall settings and allow avast.setup to connect.
If you’re not sure, just turn off your firewall (to be sure the update failure is not due to it).
Maybe you should ‘remove’ avast.setup entry, try to update, receiving a new alert from the firewall, allowing it and checking it to remember.
Check your proxy settings into avast!:
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
Make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu).
If it doesn’t help, try switching from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).
Thank you for your reply, Tech.
But my problem is not solved.
my license key is valid now.
my firewall allow avast.setup to connect.
I couldn’t try because proxy’s window doesn’t appeared even if “Proxy” is clicked subject to your suggestion 3).
Surely software has error, so I retried to delete avast anchvirus. But uninstaller doesn’t work.
I’ll post the log.
I had started avast several time after 06 Oct, but they are not recorded.

Your log seems ok…
Do you use any firewall besides windows one?
Did you have any other antivirus in the past in your computer?
Do the errors repeat? Seems that your avast installation is updated…
I am having the issue that this previous person was having, I was wondering if you could walk me through how to get my Avast! Home Edition to update as well… please.
My X error message says exactly:
*Can’t install VPS update. Please, report the following errorcodes:
–Ver:4.8.1169
–SI: 0x00000002
–ST: 0xFFFFFFFF
–LE: 0x00000000.
This error is most probably caused by a virus that corrupts setup/update engine.
Follow these instruction to repair it:
1)Download fixed files here: http://public.avast.com/~forejt/test/setup.zip
2)Open avast settings, select Troubleshooting section, and set the checkbox to disable avast self-defense
3)Extract both files from downloaded setup.zip to avast4\setup folder
4)Run vpsupd.exe again
5)Enable avast self-defense again by unchecking the box in Troubleshooting settings again
I attempted to do the steps you suggested. Also, tried to do the Repair as well…
Sadly I cant seem to repair my Avast4! under the add/removed file… As for the downloading files, I worked up until Run vspsud.exe. Then it told me that it stopped working properly and Windows will notify me of an update when one is found. Forejt was right though… I have 8 worms on my computer! Something called:
Win32:Klez [Wrm]
Win32:Klez-B@UPX [Wrm]
Win32:Klez-E [Wrm]
Win32:Klez-H [Wrm]
Win32:Klez-I [Wrm]
Win32:Klez-J [Wrm]
Win32:Klez-K [Wrm]
Win32:Klez@UPX [Wrm]
(wth these came from… never share your Computer!!!)
I found these when i came across this: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
So im giving this a try… I just downloaded that and going to redo your steps again Forejt. Hopefully I know what I am doing… if not… let me know… I want to save my baby!(computer)
Thanks All Computer Tech Helpers!
(going to war) >:(
PS: I got windows vista… if that means anything
Now its telling me it cant find E:\Setup.exe… i think im screwing up my PC now lol… Oh well going to see if i can remember how to set it up in safemode…
I managed to fix my problem!.. some how… My Avast updated and its now working properly… i removed 2-4 virusssssss on my computer… so everything is Greenlighted…
I was also having the same error. And the above steps cured the problem.
This was i guess most probably caused by Monga virus on my system which though i had cleaned manually but it still did something with the antivirus.
Can someone shed some light on what exactly these 2 files in the setup.zip do.
Hi~ I’m having the same trouble, couldnt update Avast! The error reported were exactly the same. The above link given above could not be accessed also. :-[ Don’t know what should I do now. Under the Add or remove programme, I couldn’t do anything to repair or to remove it also.
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
This problem is already fixed with version 4.8.1282 and higher.
Uninstall avast in safe mode with aswClear: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
Then restart and install the latest version. The green download.com link on our site still has old version, so download setup directly by clicking on the black download link below.
