Hi, first post
Been using Avast for ages, but running update now, I get error messages for both types of update, as follows:
Update engine and virus definitions:
Last encountered error. Cannot connect to download337.avast.com (109.123.117.2:80)
Update Program:
Last encountered error. Cannot connect to download743.avast.com (208.43.71.142:80)
Any ideas? Much appreciated thanks,
Rich
What happens if you try a manual update, same error ?
What is your operating system and firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.
I don’t mean to sound dumb (I probably will anyway, but oh well) I thought Avast WAS the firewall? If so, then we use that.
Only the Avast Internet Security (AIS) suite has a full firewall, so if you aren’t using AIS, what firewall are you using ?
What about the other questions ?
What happens if you try a manual update, same error ?
Is that the thing where you download a update or something, directly from the avast website?
What is your operating system and firewall ?
Windows Vista Home Edition, and I thought avast was a firewall shrug so, Windows firewall, my mistake.
No. Open avast → go to “Maintenance” tab on the left → click on “Update engine and virus definitions”
What message do you become?

What message do I become? :o
Um, anyway… yeah what message comes up, is the one that appears in the first post. I don’t think that is what a manual update is, though I could be wrong, because I thought it was when you download the file directly from a website, and double click/run it like that.

From this I would suspect that Asyn’s suggestion (avastUI, Settings, Updates, Proxy Settings) should resolve it, fingers crossed.
Set avast! to: Direct Connection (No Proxy)
