On my summary page, the page shows that I am behind the virus definitions version (100604-1) and I’ve tried at lest ten times to update it, either by clicking on the Update button next to it or going to the maintenance tab and manually updating my virus definitions.
After a few seconds of manually updating my engine and definitions, it states:
“Already up to date (current version 100605-0)”
It even says at the bottom, “Your virus definitions are out date! Latest virus definitions 100605-0” after I tried to update it.
Then I go back to the Summary tab and it’s still on 100604-1.
I went from the free version where everything worked fine to the $$ 5.0 version. I am using a Dell XP SP3… Did a clean install after uninstalling the old version and now, can’t update at all, Plus if I am on a site via Firefox 3.6 and try to search using goggle I DON’T end up where I am supposed to… Freaky fake sites… Now sure what to do…the old version of avast worked great…
I’ve had this problem before and others have suggested a reboot after the update but that doesn’t help. Turns out that the setup.ovr file can’t be written but I have no idea why. It’s not locked (I’ve tested it) and support has been unable to determine what the issue is.
My only recourse has been to uninstall and then download the latest version and install it clean. But, I’ve only encountered this issue when it’s an update to the engine. I’ve never had a problem updating virus definitions.
