Update programs with Avast that are not Installed on C:

Hey all,

So I install some of my programs on my machine to a different drive than “C:” and I was hoping that someone out there knows a way to have the Avast Software updater find programs installed on/in other drives/directories so that they may be monitored and updated automatically (seeing that I have Premier this would be nice to have happen).

-Thanks in advance for any and all help.

To my knowledge it doesn’t matter where you have applications installed for the avast software updater to recognize them and check for updates.

I can be wrong here,

but avast checks the registry for installed applications and compares the installed version with the latest available version.

That being said, it does have shortcomings.
e.g. if you install a “portable application”, there will be no registry entries for it and the avast software updater will not know it is installed since it doesn’t scan drives for installed applications.

There is another downside to the software updater.
It only checks version numbers.
The means if you have a application installed on a system that doesn’t support SSE2 (or higher) and there is newer version that needs SSE2 supported, the avast software updater will tell you that there is a newer version but it will not tell you that you can’t install it because of the hardware requirements.
