in Avast 4.8 it was a option in the settings->update->details to show a symbol in the system tray location (red-green arrows in a circle) when an def update process is running.
Where is this setting in version 5 ?

Especially if the user cleans up the temps before doing so. Apparently, there are bigger issues to be dealt with right now so hopefully someone will think about adding the feature back to the application once everything else is fixed…including the sound problem with flash video. :
