After the update to .864, I rebooted and windows was stuck during login during very long time, sometimes desktop is shown, but task bar is messed up and avast doesn’t start saying that service cannot be started. If I start service manually, all becomes fine but if I reboot all happens again. I reinstalled .677 after using Avast Uninstall Utility in safe mode. I already tried to install .864 from the scratch but all happens again. I really don’t know what’s happening, seems like some kind of access permissions to Avast Service. I’m using Comodo Firewall only and I also tried to install .864 with firewall down but it didn’t solve it.
You can try repair avast from control panel->add remove application"Or programs and features in win7" then choose avast and click change a new window will appear choose repair
I had a problem too after updating to the latest version of free AVAST
I work on windows XP pro, using mozilla seamonkey browser, after updating from inside the program, my seamonkey just froze, and nothing worked, had to reboot, and try again and again same problem occurred, and one more added up computer wouldnt shut down or restart at all (got stuck you system is shutting down screen forever) … tried some defragment and error checks with all seeming to be ok tried again by uninstalling avast latest updated version but problem still there, computer refused to shut down and had to reboot, I ended up restoring system to an earlier date with previous version of avast and it works just fine, please advice on how and when it will be safe to install latest updates
I tested today with .874 pre-release and happened the same. Avast service cannot be started due to a dependency issue with error 1068. The same error is shown with .864.
Updated to .889 and I had the same behaviour. I gived up Avast because I don’ know what to do more and I’m tired of re-installing .677, hence I installed Avira.
