I just updated and after a restart got a message stating zonealarm and avast are having problems working well together. It said it noticed this and asked if i wanted a part of something off. I can’t recall but I click yes and now (yes, stupidly) I am wondering where I go to manually control whatever I turned off. Help anyone someone. what did i say no to and what can i do to turn it on or manually configure it.
if you are using zonealarm pro and privacycontrol in zonealarm are set to high.and if you click yes in avast comptability dialog box the transparent mode proxy in webshield will be turned off you have to manually configure browser to access internet.to manually
configure your browser watch instructional video
for broadband users:
http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy.htm
for dialup users
http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy_dialup.htm
for firefox users

and if you are using zonealarm free you should click no. because privacy features
not present in zonealarm free this will not turn off webshield transparent mode proxy.
I am using zonealarm free and I clicked yes so what do i do and what does that mean?
Use your preferred text editor and edit the avast4.ini file (probably in Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA folder).
Locate the line containing ZoneAlarmCompatibility= and delete that line. Save the updated avast4.ini file.
Restart your system, you should get the popup window again inviting you to make a choice about ZoneAlarm. For the free version of ZoneAlarm clicking the “No” button is more appropriate.
I did the same thing as “goodboy”, i.e. clicked “yes” and now want to go back and change it.
However, I tried to find the ini file in Notepad. It is not listed under Alwil/DATA on my computer. Could it be somewhere else?
Also, am I really at risk for clicking “yes” if I have the Zone Alarm free version? I am wondering if I should just live with it. Please advise.
Thanks much.

Yes
I am wondering if I should just live with it. Please advise.
I would suggest that you fix the problem for your computers security sake.

Browse to and open this file: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATAavast4.ini
Then as alanrf suggested do this:
Locate the line containing ZoneAlarmCompatibility= and delete that line. Save the updated avast4.ini file.Restart your system, you should get the popup window again inviting you to make a choice about ZoneAlarm. For the free version of ZoneAlarm clicking the “No” button is more appropriate.
Let us know how you get on

Lee, I found the ini file by copying and pasting the file name into the “run” command. Duh!
I then edited the file as suggested, and it looks like I’m good to go.
Thanks for answering my questions.
