Sorry to hear. I feel your pain. So frustrating. I really wish I had a clear answer for you based on my experience, but as I type this I have just formatted my PC and had to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch.

Wasted a full day yesterday and a half day (so far) today. I will still have to load all my original files.

Be very careful of their support. DO NOT hold down the power button for 20 secs no matter what they say. Even the technical support manager confirmed that was the wrong thing for the technie to do.

Good luck with getting your system back up and working.

Do you have any other security related software installed on your system ???

just curious Eddy, would you recommend the Win 7 Microsoft essentials anti virus at all? Just trying to consider all my options.

Windows firewall, Malwarebytes (free version), SpyShelter premium. But these had zero conflicts before the latest update. Since when I disable Avast all is normal and others are experiencing the same problem, the Avast programming is the culprit. I’ve contacted Avast support about the issue, but so far nothing.

I have the same operating system as the op …

is there a problem with this os and avast? I am having issues too but not as bad as this person not yet… and I don’t want them to get this bad… I will not hold down the power key… thanks for that.

Even better, don’t allow someone to access your computer remotely unless you totally trust that person.
