Updated Avast and now can't load Windows

A couple of days ago, I was prompted to update my Avast software (paid not free version). Ever since then, I’ve been unable to load into Windows. All I get is either the loading screen (and then error messages) or a black screen and cursor icon.

I’ve searched and identified that I’m not the only one with this problem, but it appears that the most successful fix was posted by a computer programmer. (I’m not.)

How can I either reestablish my system prior to updating or remove the problem so that I can use my computer?

(I’m using a HP Pavilion with Windows Vista.)

Is that a 32 or 64bit Vista ?

As noted above, I’m having trouble signing in to my computer to confirm, but I’m pretty sure it’s a 64 bit.

Download the following three programmes to your desktop :

  1. Rufus

For 64bit systems
2. Windows Vista 64bit RC I will PM the link
3. Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64

Insert the USB stick Then run Rufus

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon.

Press Start Burn

Then copy FRST to the same USB

Insert the USB into the sick computer and start the computer. First ensuring that the system is set to boot from USB
