UPDATED AVAST and now I can't connect to the internet

Hi Everybody,

First I would like to say hello to everybody. I am a proud user of AVAST for quite some time ( Great program ) , however, maybe somebody can help me. The other day I updated my AVAST 4.8 Pro and there after I was unable to connect to the net. The only time I could regain a connection was by going to the Network Properties and right clicking enable. ( In other words… before I did my update, I would be able to simply power up and go, however, now it’s a new ritual with having to enable to LAN. )

Here is some info:
I’m using Windows XP Pro
Verizon DSL thru an Ethernet connection
No Firewall
NO ISSUE WITH THE MODEM AND LINES ARE FINE…
CONTACTED VERIZON and no help.
I did a IPCONFIG/ RELEASE & A RENEW AND NOTHING.

i’M REALLY HOPING THAT SOMEONE COUND HELP ME. I’M LOSING MY MIND.

Strange, avast shouldn’t mess with any of Internet connections and the network itself…
Did you run a full scanning with avast?

Hi Tech,

Yes I did… I know that is the strange thing about this. AVAST has always ran great for me, however, it wasn’t until I did that last update that I went to connect and found no connection. Then what gets weirder, I know it’s not my modem, lines, overall connection because when I manually enable the LAN everything works.

I sure wish someone could help me.

Are you using Windows XP Pro SP3?

Get Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) then update it then run a Quick scan and let it remove all it finds:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Post its log here after it completes.

Run Secunia Online Software Inspector to see what applications are vulnerable:

Just wanted to stop on by to let everyone know my issue is fixed. It was not AVAST, rather it was the PrivateFirelwall application, even after I removed it and what I thought was all it’s files. If it wasn’t for a guy who made a nice little app called CleanPF6, I would still be without a connection.

I since changed to to PC Tools new FFwall and I’m much happier.

Thanks to everyone that helped…
