Updated Avast! is confusing!

Hi,

I have the following virus detected and put into the virus chest by my Avast! program:

“Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk]”

I am quite confused as to how to proceed with this. Do I right click and delete? Does that permanently delete it from my system? The message I get is “Do you want to remove this file from the chest?” If that means just removing it from the chest and putting it back onto my computer, no thanks!
I tried moving it to the trashcan but that was unsuccessful. I’m quite terrified as it’s an operating system virus. I have turned off system restore and then done a boot scan as well, and it found nothing else.

I would appreciate the help very much!

It is quite safe in the virus chest, if you wish to delete it then right click and select delete

I have seen that link, and it doesn’t specify if it’s permanently deleted from the chest or the system. I hope you understand why I’m being cautious.

So, could I just let it stay? Forever? I run the free edition.

Yes, it will be deleted permanently.
