Updated Avast, now the computer crashes

Hi, can anyone help.

I’ve just run an update for avast which popped up on my desktop, I’m using the free version, which required me to restart the computer after installing. I believe this update came out a couple of days to a couple of weeks ago.

When I turn on the pc, after bios and initall boot I get a blue screen with an error message asking me to uninstall or remove any new devices or software. Thing is, I can’t get it to boot into Windows at all, the PC is stuck in a cycle of failing to boot and restarting. Running Windows diagnostics to look for the problem does find something but clicking fix does not solve and when it re-boots the same blue screen comes up.

Short fitting a new HD and making a fresh W7 install, I don’t know what to do.

Up to now the PC has been very stable for nearly 3 years.

Any help greatly appreciated, pretty unimpressed that an update looks like it has done this.

The “uninstall or remove any new devices or software” message presumes you can boot into “Safe Mode”.
Have you tried this?
(i.e. hold down or continuously tap ‘F8’ while rebooting, Choose “Safe Mode” from options.)

Excellent, thanks.

It will boot into safe mode, should I now uninstall Avast?

Boot into Safe Mode.

Uninstall Avast from within Safe Mode.
Hopefully PC will then boot fine.
From there use the AvastClear…run in normal mode and it’ll reboot PC into Safe Mode to finish.

You then need to look and make sure you have no other A/V software…if so, uninstall those.
If you HAD previous A/V make sure to use their cleaner utils…Avast 10/2015 is more sensitive to older A/V stuff on PC.

Now, you are ready to install CLEANLY Avast10/2015.
Download and install…AND you should select CUSTOM during the installation to uncheck ANY/ALL items you do not want installed…mostly in the TOOLS section…noted at about 2minutes in video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTY0H30KqYM
I would HIGHLY recommend doing Forum search on “NG” feature/tool to decide whether you want.
