Updated C Drive, now Avast won't launch from D

Hello, I had my avast antivirus installed to my D Drive to help save space. I recently had my C drive cloned to a bigger drive and now I’m having issues launching from my D drive.

I had many of my passwords secured using avast so I need some way of repairing the install so Windows will recognize it. Right now it doesn’t show in the program list at all.

Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (6.1, Build 7601)
Avast 2022 (17.4.2294) (Last program version from my account.)

You will need to perform a clean installation of avast.

Ok after the clean install is there a way to copy over the license/saved passwords?

Download your license through your avast account and use it.

What do you mean with passwords ?
The avast password or the ones stored in avast passwords ?

The ones stored in Avast passwords.

Use the backup (which you should have created)

If you don’t have a backup and have synchronization enabled, you should be able to use that to retrieve them

If you have either, use the link in the mail you have gotten from avast.

I have the original data(still on the D drive). Where is the password backup data located so I can copy it to the fresh install?

I didn’t do a synchronize on the original data because this is my main computer. So I need to transfer the data from the old install to the new one.

The backup is in the place (folder) where you saved it.

Ok let’s try this a different way.

Before changing Hard Drives Avast detected unsecured passwords in Chrome. So it grabbed all those up and secured them while adding Avast Passwords to chrome. Avast is located on D Drive.

I cloned the C Drive to get more space and then Avast is unable to run, doesn’t appear in program list. All the data is still on the D drive.

So I made a fresh install and now I need to transfer the password data that Avast gobbled up before the Hard Drive clone. The “backup” isn’t a backup but the original data because I didn’t change the D drive at all. All the data is still there I just need to transfer the password file to my new install or redirect to that data.

How would I do that?

As you didn’t had synchronization enabled the only two options are :

  • Use the backup from avast passwords (if you created one)
  • Use the link in the email to restore them

Thanks for the help.

You’re welcome
