Thought my avast was purring along (after the umpteenth wipedown and recovery for a hijacker) but noticed after the first week that I started getting a sound alert message of a successful update almost daily while my logs stated, “Function setifaceUpdatePackage()has failed. Ret…”…almost daily. I get no error codes. I had avast! installed with my last recovery (only last month).
Also, I have seen reports that avast! was unable to scan 594 temporary internet files that were passworded and archived - and not by me. I couldn’t delete them - and neither could CCleaner. Avast didn’t see them today. I have tried to dump those files several times.
Because of these and other problems, I’m probably facing another full recovery on this Vista but want to be as familiar as possible with problems on the programs I’ll reload beforehand so I can prevent recurring issues. If it makes any difference, I’m running avast! Home Ed, Commodo IS, SuperAntispyware and CCleaner plus Windows Defender. If there are any known conflicts, please let me know.
Stop looking in the logs all it does is frighten the horses, the text is verbose and is not helpful to the user but to a developer, perhaps.
I tend not to look in the logs unless I experience a problem or I actually get an error displayed to the screen.
If you have seen reports that avast can’t scan xx file then you should also have seen the responses that there are legit reasons why this happens and it doesn’t mean they are infected.
None of what you mention warrant a recovery of vista.
So what are the other problems that you ‘don’t’ mention ?
Comodo IS comes with a resident anti-virus and two resident AVs are a no, no. so you need to uninstall CIS and then do a custom install excluding the AV element. I don’t know if there is a process setting where you can remove the AV element without doing an uninstall.
FYI
From the Programs icon (the equivalent of “Add or Remove Programs” in XP) in Vista Control Panel, Comodo CIS Antivirus can be uninstalled leaving the Firewall installed.
