Updates for older versions of Avast

A question for those of us that may want to stay with Avast 7 (instead of V8 on some computers)
since in many cases, this version is doing just fine and light on the system.

Will the License still be renewable in the future for Avast 7 ? ? ?

Will Avast 7 still be able to get the latest definitions files ? ? ?

Is there a limit on when support for older versions stops ? ? ?

 1. Yes.
 2. Yes.
 3. Yes, but not anytime soon.

RE #3 as to when they stop updates for older versions, is that something like a few years or how long typically ?

Well, support for version 4.8 ends 2nd quarter 2013, hope this answers your question.

I was guaranteed updates at least 3 years on the current version 7.

Version 4 lasted way over 10 years (It was version 4.3 in February 2003) and was only 1 of 2 anti-virus products that had real “rootkit technology” Symantec was caught with thier pants down, as we most A/V vendors. OK, Panda was the other guy, besides avast!, with that rootkit recovery. avast!'s was VRDB, and Panda had something similar in their Enterprise version, but was OFF by default. J.R.
