Updates Not Working?

Since yesterday I canot get any more updates. it comes up with red box saying it cant connect to server. Is the Avast Server down? Any Ideas… On Dial Up

All avast.com servers are up and running. Check your firewall configuration and make sure that you have correctly configured proxy settings in avast!. You can also test connection to our servers with

ping files.avast.com

command.

Is your license not expired if you use home version you can just register again and then you will get a new key.
This happened to me re registering worked.

Welcome to the forums, keithhill.

If it has been less than 14 months since getting your registration key, which has been mentioned by jan paul, please check your computers time/date.

For some days, I get the same message when I start my computer.
If I click in the red window, I get an error message telling me that the file is not available.
In the log, I have the following messages :
SYSTEM 1248 Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x00000002, dwRes is 00000002.
SYSTEM 1248 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.
If I check manually for update ( virus database and program ), it tells me that all is up to date.

I have the latest version of avast.

Try registering again.

Gtaillandier, can you test if changing (or adding) AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds value into the [InetWD] section of avast4.ini file solve this issue?

You could set the number of seconds to wait before attempting to update. The default is 30 but it may not be enough in some DSL systems. In this case, you can try increasing this e.g. to 60 (1 minute). That should be enough.

Do you use a firewall?

Tech, thank you for your answer.
In avast.ini, I’ve added the line AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds with value=60. I have a line AssumeAlwaysConnected=0

Must I change the value to 1 ( I’m always connected to Internet ) ?

For firewall, I use ZA pro.

Today, I haven’t encountered the problem : the virus database has been correctly updated.

Sincerely.

i have quite often the same problem : i use win98se and adsl permanent connection.

When the computer boots, avast checks if there’s a new viral update, but when at the same time, my mail client receives the avast iavs message it starts another iavs request and then, there’s a problem (red message saying “no update file found” or computer freeze! :-[)

what should i do : increasing the delay like you say ? wait to collect my mails ?

You may choose one of the two methods.
Using a greater delay at boot is better for me. You need this process to finish to start your email program and download emails.
I think you could try NetRun to control what is ‘started’ when you have an internet connection (http://www.home.earthlink.net/~czarsoft/NetRun.html).
So, boot… system try the automated update of avast… netrun is loaded… wait the specified seconds to load your email program…
