That is one hell of a jump from 3.1.11 to 5.0. Looks like they are trying to align the version numbers.

Yep there were no 4 versions, iv been watching the 5 beta cycle which was fairly short in comparison to the firefox fiasco, dont really know why they bothered to release 3.1.11 since it was so close to this release though other than to inconvenience everyone with another download.
If thunderbird starts to take on the updating frequency of firefox it is surely going to keep the mozilla users busy and probably a bit pissed off.

With a jump like this I always wonder if it a) isn’t rushed and b) if and update from the UI would be fine or to do a clean install which would be a pain in the rear.

I just did the update over the top on one of my other systems and it seems all good, new version is a little bit faster.

Looks like I will be waiting a while so add-ons catch up, before I update.

So many updates that they release… Wonder if they can introduce an auto-download like avast! of course without product like McAfee or Google Chrome because the user wont be happy that its aut-download that on his computer lol… Also its would be less annoying for the user to go download their site or just wait the pop ups that just update ActiveX or Plugin only…
+1 I agree with you but you can’t win against Adobe…why? because they’re arsehole and they don’t think about auto-download (automatic update) because flashplayer are manual update not auto, they don’t have enough brains like we do smart and clever ;D they’re just as slow as a donkey :-\ ( Sorry for the OT)

Well they are on a hiding to nothing as I wouldn’t allow them to update automatically anyway. If they had auto updates enabled by default people would complain about that.
There are very few applications that I do allow automatically update, avast being a notable exception.
