Actually andrey does have a very valid point in regard to the comodo firewall if it is being used in conjunction with avast and im sensing some kind of anti-comodo feeling going on here in this forum.what we do need to remember is that separate security companies are trying to achieve the same goals and to protect the end users and not just to rip them off.

It has nothing to do with any specific product but effectively advertising a competing product, when the forums are being paid for by avast. It would be the same for people posting links for say Norton or K I S or any competing product.

Avast is generous enough to provide a free product, which the paid services in effect support, so it is a bit of a slap in the face on the forums that they also pay for to see promotion of a competing product. As I have said try doing that on the Norton, K I S or Comodo forums and see just how benevolent they would be.

Spywareblaster Update

14 New Defs.

I use Secunia PSI, it keeps all of my programs and Windows 7 updated automatically. It can be set as a reminder if you do not want it to auto-update. It is free and is a good program.

Don’t really care for the new icon.

Excuse the off topic discussion  but I don’t mind it and at least it now matches the forum logo.

“Note” if you have been running the beta there is no need to update as nothing has been changed.

Their update notice has also changed:

I don’t like the colour scheme of the new or old icon as if you disable the malicious sites IP blocking it turns to a bland grey.

Since I hate the Malicious website blocking of MBAM, it doesn’t do what it says as many other categories are lumped in to this feature. I found it to me more hindrance than help, a pain in the backside, so is disabled on both my systems.

So unlike avast which allows you not to monitor shields you have disabled (rather than uninstalled) so you get the regular icon. I actually like the new MBAM icon but not the wishy washy grey colour :stuck_out_tongue:

David the website blocking is much more accurate now than previous with the new heuristics features implemented and with the website blocking activated detections will take place before they enter the system rather than relying only on the Filesystem Protection, Prevention is better than cure as we always say

So long as it doesn’t do what it says on the tin, malicious websites only and no other unrelated categories it will remain disabled. I never once had a malicious website block that wasn’t an FP, I got totally fed up with it.

I also don’t see the point of it when we have the Network shield, firefox if that is your browser, doing the same task, not to mention the web shield backing both of those up with live scanning.

In the early days of this feature I had a few FP’s but none in the last couple of years that I can remember and like I mentioned earlier it should be even more accurate now, if any FP’s are recorded that you know of then they should be reported to the MBAM team to fix in the same way as we would report FP’s to avast.

With avast I just see this mbam feature redundant, especially so given what I have said.

Well I don’t use Firefox but I am using avast on two of my systems together with MBAM Pro and with some of the malicious sites I was running by MBAM during the beta period it worked wonders, many were stomped on by avast first as they should be but there were also quite a few that got by avast and were instantly nabbed by MBAM which imo only goes to prove that layers actually work.

I’d never go without this feature since I’ve seen it work it’s magic so many times
