Hi craigb,
That is not true. The English version was flagged as outdated by avast updater right away. I just had to wait that period for the Dutch version coming available with that update. So nothing to do with the avast update more with the VLC Media Player coders and translators being slow to release…

Hi craigb,
Learnt this from website software updates as well. Version in other languages can come overdue or not at all (known issue from the Brazilian and Indonesian theater). That is why such countries with the outdated and vulnerable software mean a land of plenty for the malcreants/hackers. It would be better that everyone was on English/American English (global) versions. That would be far and far more secure… (but cannot be realized unsder all circumstances alas)

True but even with English being the wider spoken language on the globe I don’t think the rest are going to convert anytime soon, heck! many French Canadians refuse to acknowledge the English language of the country they reside in :
Man don’t get me started on that!! :
The height of arrogance.
Guys, let’s continue to write here about software updates, not about language problems.

Hi George Yves,
We did not start out to discuss linguistics here but “updates” related to particular languages. The point was that I found out from what users tell me in the “virus and worms” section and particularly with website software and plug-ins some English patched versions were NOT been made available in other languages (Brazil, Indonesia).
For regions where the “lingua franca” or working language is other than English this could lead to security problems and indeed more infected sites.
The avast! software updater warned me to update VLC Media Player as a patch for a particular vulnerability had become available.
For the Dutch version of the software I had to wait another ten days for it to be implemented.
So it would be a good thing that software upgrades at once should be delivered in the main global languages like English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic. If not whole areas will be confronted with so-called vulnerability gaps (vulnerabilty window stays open longer than needed).
In the case of my VLC Media Player that vulnerability gap for the Dutch version lasted for an additional 10 days…with Dutch speakers being only 0.4 % of the global population (Netherlands, Belgium Flanders, Surinam (and Afrikaans as a related language)) I’d now rather download that program in English.

Sorry Damien but George is correct.
This Thread is for announcing updates.
Any ongoing discussions should be done in a separate thread.
