The Video DownloadHelper extension for Firefox auto-updated on my system just now, to ver. 5.1.2. The Avast crew might want to discuss with them the following, appearing near the bottom of the “what’s new” page which auto-opens in a new tab, similar to NoScript updates:
If you are experiencing slow-downs of your computer and are using AVAST as an anti-virus, we suggest you first try using a better quality anti-virus like AVG instead.

New Adobe Acrobat Reader
It is now called Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and it’s FREE
Version: 2015.007.20033
If you open up your current Adobe Reader and manually click on check for updates. It will say no new updates. This new version is a major upgrade and a redesign

Chrome 42 is available in stable now.
Though be forewarned, it’ll get rid of most of your plugins.
Most of my plugins are gone now after updating, not just Java (good riddance) but most others as well.

I was talking about plugins (chrome://plugins), not extensions (chrome://extensions).
I used to have over 10 plugins (many disabled), now all I have is 5 left, though the others are still in Firefox.
