HijackThis 2.00.0 Beta

HijackThis is a general homepage hijackers detector and remover. It scans for all objects which may be affiliated with Web Browser activity. StartList scans the system for all objects that are in all startup sections of the registry. It is continually updated to detect and remove new hijacks. It does not target specific programs/URLs, just the methods used by hijackers to force you onto their sites.

I don’t like the fact that this HJT 2.0 beta, is now a .exe installer .exe rather than a stand alone zip file you can extract the contents and run the HJT exe.

Edit: I found the Trend location where you can download either the zip file or executable versions of HJT, http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php click the Free Download tag, you need to tick a I agree to the terms, etc.

AnalyzeThis seems to be an attempt to build a Prevx type database of applications

This table below compares your HijackThis log file entries with others analyzed by Trend Micro. The column "per 10,000 PCs" indicates, on average, how many times this entry in your log was found on other PCs. Additional information will be provided as more HijackThis log files are added to the AnalyzeThis database.

It does provide a table comparing the analysis to other PCs but on this computer there are 18 entries indicated as 0% of PCs With Item, including HijackThis’ own installation file. I don’t see any value in this information. “Common/Uncommon” is not a diagnosis.
