updating problem

I recently updated avast to 4.7 from 4.6 home version and since then i am getting error msg while updating the virus database.

error msg as “Err:Cannot connect to download34.avast.com (unknown:80).”

previously it used to update without any problem. someone help me.

I use win 2000 professional OS. and P4 system.

if firewall is the problem, i reset to default in firewall. i use zone alarm firewall. But still the problem persist. I want someone from Avast or others help me on how else we have to rectify it if it is problem from firewall.

Try deleting the … avast.setup … from ZA and then allow the new entry when ZA asks for it again. Sometimes, this is needed.

I gave you a very short answer because this one has been asked and answered a lot of times lately.

In ZA a file is called avast.setup, and for Avast 4.6 it has the version 4.6.0.0 if you look in ZA’s Programcontrol. This file is only generated during an update, and you will not find the file looking for it. It only exists during an update(program or VPS), and then disappears.

I suppose it’s now at version 4.7.0.0, but that I can’t confirm. (I stay at 4.6 a bit longer.) I for me can’t say for sure that giving this avast.setup permissions in ZA will solve your problems, but I feel so.

So far i have used almost all antivirus programs mostly paid ones, including avast, among them i found that Avast is best even comparable with the other paid antivirus programs.

I have suggested Avast Pro for my office also :slight_smile:
