Updating programmes usually fails with Avast (free)

Avast (free) alerts me that updates are needed, but when I click to update them manually - the updates fail. This happens all the time. This morning it just happened (again) with Java Runtime Environment 8 (32 Bit). I run Windows 10 (32 Bit)

I would be most grateful for some help.

The update modul is incredibly buggy! I delete this module!

If you e.g. the java, thunderbird or firefox installed in non standard paths comes the update module into utter confusion!!
Partial be above-mentioned installed programs twice - lol!

sorry for my google english!

Thank you for responding trostspender! I think you say that you also have a lot of problems when you to try to update programmes with Avast. I sympathise ::slight_smile:

Right Caroline! Sometimes the routine does not even recognize my installed programs (7zip, FoxitReader a. O.)

Certainly not a problem here:

Maybe a repair of Avast is in order ???

Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

Hi Bob,

Thank you for that suggestion - I tried it, but still the update for Java Runtime Environment 8 (32 Bit) failed…

Caroline

Since I don’t use Java Runtime, I had no way of knowing. I’m reporting this to Avast.
Maybe they’ll have an answer.

Could you please post the logfile of ASU (as attachment)?
Easiest way to find: simply click on the link “Show log” on the Software Updater page in Avast user interface. Usually Notepad will open which will allow you to save the logfile to some other folder.

You could also first try the Refresh option and run a new scan to see if that helps.
