Upgrade to a newer version

I installed the Avast internet security software on my wifes Dell Inspiron laptop running win7, went well untill it said to upgrade to the latest version.
I did the download and when it finished the program asked if I wanted to restart now, I hit ok.
The CP would not run, it took me about an hour to get it working again, tried the upgrade on an old laptop, worked fine, my desk top it worked fine, but the Dell it didn’t so I redid it and this time I chose to restart later and opened and closed a program, logged off, restarted my CP and BAM can’t get anything to work, this time the laptop must of got mad with me and I had to re-install everything which took a few hours, now I am afraid to try again because I really don’t want to go through all that stuff again.
Is there any known problems with Dell and the Avast upgrades?

In this case I would recommend a fresh install as opposed to over the top

Download the latest version to your desktop from here
Download aswClear from here
Go to Programs and Features > add/remove and uninstall Avast
Reboot back to safe mode and run aswClear (select all versions of Avast ) once for each version, no need to reboot in between
After the last one reboot

Install the updated Avast

I had to do a complete recovery so there should not be anything on my cp pertaining to Avast. Yes/No.
I should be able to just load it as it would be a new install right?
Thanks Craig

If it’s a recovery back to factory state make sure you uninstall the pre-installed AV and run the vendors removal tool first before installing avast again.

Download the REMOVAL TOOL for your current Anti Virus Program by following the Guide offered here:
How do I remove old third-party antivirus software before installing avast!?
Click on this link, find your current Antivirus Program and follow their instructions.

Which version of AIS is being publically downloaded from Avast Website?
