Upgraded to Windows 10 but Can't Connect to Internet

Wasn’t exactly sure where to ask this so feel free to redirect me somewhere where i may get some answers.

Around 5am yesterday I woke up and saw that my computer had auto upgraded to windows 10 even though I thought I had unscheduled it. I decided to go along with it and let it finish even though I wasn’t quite ready to make the jump. When it finished everything seemed to be running fine and it even seemed to be running faster than it did when I had windows 7 but I noticed the notification in the corner telling me that avast firewall was down. I tried to turn it back on through avast but I kept getting a error message saying that it failed to turn on. So I restarted the computer and ever since I did that I have not been able to get an internet connection with my computer even though all of the other computers in the house connect just fine and the firewall is still failing to turn on.

When I troubleshoot the connection problem it says that some windows sockets registry entries are missing. I have reached a point where I feel like I have hit a wall trying to find a solution. The majority of the solutions are the ones that you can find in “handy andys” videos on it on youtube. I’ve tried all of those to no avail. Only other solutions I could find involve deleting the windows sockets files in the registry (which scares me to be honest haha) or to do a clean install which I would rather not do so I don’t lose all of my stuff.

It seems that some people who have rolled back to windows 7 still have the problem. Would I be able to roll back to 7 to check and then come back to 10 for free if it still persists? I probably would just reset windows 10 if it didn’t mean that I would lose the ability to roll back to 7. I dunno I feel like I’m rambling now. Anyone know what I can do?

Oh yeah I am definitely sure it is not a problem with the modem or router (well mostly sure), not sure if it’s a problem with comcast because like i said everyone else connects just fine, and the ethernet cable is definitely in nice and snug in both the computer and router. I really want to give windows 10 a chance but this isn’t a good first impression.
