Upgrading to a newer version

I’m currently using Avast Free version 7. When Avast version 8 is released, would it be necessary to uninstall MBAM Free before installing it. And what is the best way to upgrade to a new version?

Have not heard that has been necessary.
Well I have never had to uninstall MBAM for any of Avast upgrades, however I make sure it is not running when I upgrade and reboot.
I only use MBAM on demand with my XP.
On my Win8 Pro I start MBam after reboot.

2. Usually from the GUI.
