upgrading to Pro

For the past year I’ve been using the free home edition on my PC and my husband’s Laptop with no problems. I decided to upgrade to Professional and did it on the PC. Somehow, the order came out for a single user and instead of 2 users and I had clicked on Buy now, not download. I figured, OK, I’ll probably be getting a CD I don’t need since I usually make my own, and I’ll just do a download for the upgrade to PRO on the Laptop.

Instead, I got a License in an email for the PC, but nothing to link it to, the email saying that nothing in coming in postal mail. So I’ve sent a question asking where’s the product. I hope the people in tech who get these questions know what I’m talking about.

They don’t let you ask the question yourself. They just guess what you want to know and give you 2 choices (“did you pay 2 or more days ago?”). I wonder if they know what I mean by product (not license).

To confuse me more, I did the Trial (only one offered) download on the Laptop, ran it, and …the computer still says I’m running the Home edition. Of course I haven’t gotten a license to go with the Professinal download and haven’t a clue as to how to get one. Do I now go back and click on Buy now? I don’t want 2 downloads. There’s no one to talk to by phone since the company is so far away and I’m not about to pick up a phone, my usual solution.

Can someone please straighten me out. I need a license for the download that I think I’ve installed (although I didn’t uninstall the Home version first (there were no instructions to do so)). Does that mean that the Install is invalid?

If there is a record of the Professional download for the Laptop, how do I get a license for it? I really don’t want a TRIAL. I want the real thing. Someone please help.

I think you should contact sales@avast.com with the same information they have access to the information you seek.

What you are buying is the license which should be emailed to you, this contains a new registration key, you replace your existing home key and it should update to the pro version providing you are on-line.

The only thing you have to do is insert the received license key into the program (e.g. in the About box).
If you are running a trial of the Professional version, it will simply become a licenced copy, if you are running the Home version (and you are connected to the Internet), it will automatically download and install the missing modules and turn it into the Professional version as well.
The Professional version installers can be downloaded here (but as I said, if you have any avast! already installed, you shouldn’t need it).

Regarding the license key - how did you conclude that it’s a single-user license? Is it written in the registration e-mail?
