URGENT Assistance Required

You will know about the problems I had over the last two days which seemed to have righted itself.

In the afternoon yesterday, I was attacked by a virus, SDFE ZhugLiang-4784. Avast recommended that the 4 attacks were quarantined in the chest. I sent the email to Avast on each one.

This am…No internet and even more importantly ,NO AVAST…no icon, when I went to the programme folder, clicking on the application brought nothing.

I am now very puzzled and very scared that this virus has done irreparable harm to my PC. I have no AVAST and no internet network connection…

This is being written on husband’s PC.

Please Avast and anyone out there, can you help me?

The first thing I would have done, is check with another scanner. Since you don’t have an Internet connection on that PC, I recommend the following procedure:
-Download from your husband’s PC eScan MWAV 4.4.7 from here: http://www.spywareinfo.dk/download/mwav.exe
-Run it on your husbands PC.
-Doubleklick “My Computer”. In C:\ you will see a folder named “Kaspersky”. Search in the folder for the file “kavupd.exe”. Run it.
-You will now see another new folder in C:\ named “Downloads”. Open it, select all and copy the files to the Kaspersky folder. When the system asks you if you want to overwrite the files press “yes to all”.
-Now copy the “Kaspersky” folder to CD, or flash drive or other removable media and get it to your PC.
-Put it in C:, as it was on the other PC.
-Open the folder and click the mwavscan.exe
-The GUI will appear. Select what you want to scan (memory, C etc) and press the scan/clean button.
-Tell us if it cleaned any viruses

two things:

tried to download, got a message saying that it was not a valid application.

then went back to my PC and instead of looking in files in explorer, went to list of progs. and clicked on Avast…and up it came. I am currently doing another thorough scan on my PC.

Would Kaspersky find more than Avast?

Sorry, I should have written down the exact message on the download.

??? ??? ???
You mean that clicking the above link has no effect?
Nor right-clicking it and then “save target as”?
It works for me…

I managed to get my PC onto the internet by connecting directly and it is a mess:

  1. Avast does not load on start up

  2. Microsoft Antispyware did not load

  3. System restore will not work

  4. Even “Search” does not respond.

I am runing the Kapersky scan and will save it, but as I am a bit dim, I hope I can interpret the results adequately

Now, I seem to have 2 versions of Avast, the latest and the one before it…I did not uninstall before installing the new one. Is that a problem?

Please.,…can I protect myself with Avast…I have it on the desktop, but when I open it, it is to do a scan and not to sit there protecting me in real time. The sreen saver for Avast is working, but I am terrified that without it sitting in the systray, I am not protected…how can I make it work from programme files?

The sacn is taking a long time…it is doing C drive and has found 2 errors, but no viruses.

Can you reply to this as I really want to have Avast running. What could have happened that it idid not load at start up?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Why not? Which is the error message?

Not… the new should update the old… Did you choose another folder for the second installation?

Answers:

I was able to go to CP and do repair on version 4.6, but I cannot restart until I have finished the kapersky scan which is still scanning C drive. The thing is I have looked in C And D drive and all I have found is the version installed in C drive in Dec.2003 and another in D drive Avast 4 installed on 21st October 2004.

I cannot find the latest version in my programme files…although it is in CP programmes. Once Kapersky has finished, then I could uninstall from CP and reboot and do a fresh Install. I have to say I am very nervous of what has happened. I would like to know if there is any scanner that will pick up ZhugLiang 4784 so I can delete it.

Should I leave the ones Avast caught in the Chest, or should I delete them?

Re System Restore:

" System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and and then run System restore again"

I did restart earlier and got the same message.

So far Kapersky has found 3 errors in 75,000 files…but no viruses.

I look forward to your advice.

Does it sound like a case for reformatting? I do hope not!!

Two antivirus conflict! :stuck_out_tongue: ::slight_smile:

Uninstall the one you won’t use. I suggest uninstall both and install only on C the last version.

Better will be Microsoft site…
Which operational system are you using?

I am using Windows XP Home.

Update on kapersky …it has found SEVEN viruses so far on D drive. It has only deleted ONE…Are there instructions on how to get rid of the rest and how to correct the errors it finds.

I will uninstall both AVs and install One new version in C drive.

Please tell me how to deal with Kapersky results.

This is avast forum… Unfortunatelly, I’m not an experto n Kaspersky…
Look, two antivirus at the same system will crash and conflict…

I only mentioned Kapersky as I was advised to scan with it by Spyros…I will uninstall both versions as you suggest, but if any kind soul knows how to get rid of the viruses found by Kapersky I would be very grateful.

Usually there is a delete button (might be shown at the end of the scan), if not, post the details about the viruses, these are what we would need to know:

Infection name
File path (location)
FileName
Any other info you feel is relevent

You may also want to post a hijackthis log.

I don’t think so, it is only the eScan stand-alone cleaning utility. I use it with avast & others with their AV’s without any problems. But it is better to de-activate avast during the scan to save computer resources.
Please tell which viruses eScan has found & where. Don’t copy the whole logfile, just the infected lines.

Lee, there isn’t. It’s a scan/clean button when you start. It will clean what can be cleaned, delete what needs to be deleted & report only files that might be malware but aren’t really viruses. Pretty safe…

This is a picture of my viruses…I cannot copy and paste…it gives you some idea

Sorry that did not work at all:

So Here goes:

All are from D:\Docs & Settings;

  1. Trojan Downloader Win32 1st Bar. gen Deleted

2-7 all the same :

Local Service\ Local Settings\ Temporary Internet Files \Content IE5 \ LNLYWUGE MediaTicketInstaller (1) cabbed as not a virus . Adware> media Tickets d. No Action taken

That is the info which I could not copy and paste.

Shall i just shut kapersky now and shut down resart and uninstall?

Clean your temp files with ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload2.php)

Then post a hijackthis log please (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip)

Did the crap cleaner, but cannot post HJT as I cannot copy and paste anything.

I ahve now uninstalled Avast from CP and got rid of other bits and pieces with Tune Up Utilities and RegSeeker.

However there are still quite a few files in programme files.

Can I just delete them from explorer…otherwise I will be left with remants.

but cannot post HJT as I cannot copy and paste anything.

Just attach the log/txt file it creates onto the board.

I am not sure how to do this: I do not think it is working…if so another function lost…cannot print, copy and paste, search for files and folders, clicking links does not work…
