The NEW update of avast home edition is JACKING up my system.
xp-home sp2.
Reason is process called RTHDCPL.exe … it goes 100% at system start and it’s all because of the new avast update.
I Had to Uninstall avast completely… so is there a fix coming soon?
I’m running without antivirus now.
A brief search on Google reveals that RTHDCPL.exe (usually) belongs to the Realtek audio drivers. Is that the case on your system as well?
We can try to simulate the problem in our lab. Ideally, we’d need to know which version of RTHDCPL.exe (or Realtek drivers in general) you’re using, exactly.
Thanks
Vlk
oh, vlk was faster than i me!
you can deactivate this RTHDCPL.exe if it produces problems…
i found an interesting scan, which you probably can perform:

And why exactly should this app help the original poster?
Sorry, but generally I recommend AGAINST running any “registry optimizers”.
OK… If this helps:
It’s 5.10.00.5282 version
directx 9.0c
Hd-audio
ALc883…
Something…dunno if those were the details You were looking for
OH… and actual properties of the program reveals that it’s 2.0.8.0
throught explorer ->search program->properties
You can try to update your Realtek audio. I have absolutely no problems with 4.8, XP SP2 and RTHDCPL.exe
5.10.00.5559
DirectX 9.0
Hd-audio
ALC889A
Well, honestly i didn’t test this, but on a german forum someone had a similar problem with RTHDCPL.exe and there it could be fixed by this scan/repair or something like that…
just thought it could help
Well I updated realtek drivers, scanned registry, fixed all registry problems,
Soon will try to install avast and see what it does.
EDIT: NOPE, It’s The same… I now have the same updated realtek drived as “PSW” but same thing happened.
It’s consuming all processor power at startup…
I think I’ll Remove the realtek driver from start up until the problem is solved.
It’s better to have antivirus than good soundeffects
Maby the avast program then has a update or something?
Thanks.
No problems here with Realtek driver.
I’ve got the latest driver from Realtek. I’ve got an ASUS motherboard with sound card.
Don’t know what happened but it don’t jack up so much anymore.
Only things I changed was the settings in avast …like what it scans at start up.
Is there a way to Exclude a process so it won’t scan it at startup… ?
Try this, click on the A ball in the system tray, click on details, click on standard shield, click customize, click advanced, add RTHDCPL.exe there and see if that helps.
No problems here with Realtek:
Driver 5.10.0.5404
RTHDCPL.exe 2.1.3.2
XP Home SP2, Avast! 4.8
