URL.db process slows Win7 startup and Firefox

Hello,
this problem exists for me now for some weeks.

With the PC start and Win7 loading everything becomes extremely slow: Desktop Icons white, mouse cursor barely moving, Start Menü not responding and so on. The LED of the harddsik is brightly lit then.
In general after some time - 2-3 minutes - the LED stops or is only occasionaly blinking and the whole system is quick as usually.

When I start the Task Manager during the “slow time” and go to Resource Monitor (this takes some time then) I can see that Hard Disc activity is at maximum with the Avastprocess URL.db at the top with read/write activity of 6-12 MB/s !
The next large process, prefetch or other has only 200-500 kB/s and only for a couple of seconds only.

The URL.db file is in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast is only 112 kB or so.

How can I prevent the URL.db process?

My Avast version is 17.4.2294 (build17.4.3482.0).

Forgot to mention that Firefox has a similar “slow” problem.
From time to time, not necessary at the start the browser is slow: mouse clicks don’t react, scrolling lags heavily, typing text anywhere lags and letters appear slow, tabs don’t open quickly and cannot be closed quickly too.
Observing this with the Task Manager/Resource Monitor shows the same URL.db at work.

Hi Eddy,
I already did that some time ago as I have browsed here.
Yes the URL.db file is then gone but reappears with another size.
But the file seems not to be the problem, it is the process.

Perform a repair of avast and see if that is solving it.
If not, perform a clean installation and check again.

How do I repair it?

edit:
Got it…deinstall shows repair function…

edit2:
Ok, I have repaired it and will observe it the next days. I will report later then.
So far thanks for help.

Let’s hope it solved the problem.

Just want to report what solved my issue.

Repairing the installation did not really do anything, although it seemed the URL process wasn’t always going that long as before.

A simple deinstall and reinstall did not work and the URL process was still there.
A complete new installation was necessary. That means deinstall, cleaning the registry and everything on C:\ of all AVAST remains before a new installation.
The manual cleaning seems to be not as clean as expected.

Now my startup is quick again.

It would have helped if you had received full instructions.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
