Hey all- does the Avast 4.8 Standard Suite offer URL/Web page filtering? From the description on this site I can’t tell.
If not - what do you recommend to run on a Windows Server 2008 x64 platform for web page filtering (mainly to block access to non-business related URL’s, such as porn, Facebook, Ebay, etc).
It looks like you can do it in the properties of the on-access task. Near the bottom of the list is the web shield, one of the categories there is URL Blocking. I haven’t tried it, so I can’t say how effective it is. However, it looks like you’d have to manually add each URL you want blocked.
Honestly, I’d grab a spare system and install Untangle or ClarkConnect for filtering, protocol control, and more.
but you are better of with a tool that is designed to do this
avast is an anti virus package, not a webfiltering tool
you should look into filtering on your proxy server instead, and if you do it on your proxy server you probably can create reports about the urls that get blocked and who is trying to get on it… managers will love you
To continuing what is dynamic and WPN mentioned that :
avast! have this feature to blocked URL, but not in specific and full features, because avast only provide based on URL list from user. But not based on caterogy or Regex of URL.
Correct, as WPN mentioned if you only using for simple one you may could using avast! option features. But in terms of to limited your corporate you may think to use others solution like Cymphonix Network Solution, WatchGuard Unified Threat Management, Blue Coat (Packeteer), etc
