ok here goes ,
we have a laptop (win xp pro avast pro mbam pro ) but when i want to transfer a file from my c drive to usb key it takes an extremely longtime .A friend told me that I don’t have usb 2 software ???I hope that my explaination makes sense to somebody .

I’m using a nec versa p520

ideas anyone ???

as a footnote AVAST IS THE BEST
paul

If you don’t have the software/drivers for usb 2.0 you should google, download and install it.
But if your hardware only supports usb 1.0, downloading new drivers wont speed things up.

hello ASYN

how can I test if my hardware supports usb2

Thanks for your quick reply ??? ???

it does support USB 2.0 >>> http://www.nec-driver.com/nec-driver/NEC-Versa-P520-FP520-Driver_420.html

you shouldn’t need to install any additional software, the drivers you need are in XP pro. If the file transfer is too slow, you got a hardware issue may be, your laptop is really old

but thanks

paul

t’as lu mon post ???

pardon LOGOS

but what should i download !!! MERCI BEAUCOUP

I don’t think downloading new drivers would solve your issue, as, again, XP integrates USB 2.0 drivers … you got XP SP3 right? (IIRC, not quite sure but I think support for USB 2.0 must have started with SP1).

if you don’t have SP3, get it either through Windows Update or here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

mais oui so maybe should I try to reinstall again ???

no if you already got SP3 installed no need to reinstall it will be a waste of time. I think your hardware (CPU/RAM) is probably responsible for the slow transfer rate. There’s not much you can do about it.

as to USB 2.0 support, it must have in fact started with SP2, not clear. You can read this if you want to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329632

No, just update your OS to XP3, if not already done.

merci , thank you , tusen takk ?

thank you all for your help but I think the problem is that the laptop is to old !

again thank you all for your help

merci , thank you all

paul

tausend dank!
mais, de rien, paul…
