User interface not working right

Just installed the new free Avast program version yesterday on Sept. 19, 2019 and now when I right-click on the Avast icon in the tray to check for program updates like I do every day since I don’t let it automatically download programs since it caused problems last time and didn’t install correctly, sometimes it let’s me see the Engine and Virus Definitions and Programs and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ll open it up one time and it will show me that my Engine and Virus definitions are up to date and Programs too, and then the next time I open it, it won’t work. The circle will just keep spinning around and around and it won’t let me see if my Engine and Definitions or Program is up to date. Then I’ll have to go into the user interface and click on Performance and then the DND or Software updater tab and then click on the top right cog wheel to get to the General tab and then to the Updates tab to see if my updates are up to date. The older version the day before worked fine. I’m using Windows 7 starter. I’m not very computer literate. This new version sucks.

I can’t confirm your problem.
You might want to try a repair and see if that fixes your problem.

Repair Avast:
Open the Avast User Interface > Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting > Repair App. > Restart the Computer or,
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204

Everything else works just fine. It’s a bug in the program, I’m sure.

Did a clean reinstall of the free Avast program tonight and still having problems accessing the programs page to see if there are program updates. It’s still not fixed. I don’t know what to do? I also did a repair on it and that didn’t work. How am I supposed to check to see if there are program updates if I can’t access that page? The older version worked just fine. I’m brain-damaged and this is causing me too much stress.

The darn browser clean up thing isn’t working either.

Performance → Software Updater

My software is all up to date. It’s a design problem with the newer version of free Avast. The older version a few days ago didn’t do it and it worked fine. They need to get it fixed. I shouldn’t have to click on a million different things just to see if my program is out of date.

The screenshot is from the latest version.

What do you mean by screenshot is the latest version? That doesn’t make sense.

The screenshot I posted was taken from the latest or current version of Avast.
Why doesn’t that make sense?

I guess I overlooked your screenshot. The problem is not with the software updates, it’s with the Avast Program updates. I explained it in my original post. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Right clicking on the Avast icon in the sys tray and then clicking on Engine and Virus Definitions and below that is Programs. When that window opens I used to be able to see if my Program was in red and saying “out of date,” then I could manually click on “check for updates” and it would bring in the latest version of the free Avast program. Now I have to open the interface and go to the Software Updater page or the Do Not Disturb page and click on that cog wheel in the upper right hand corner to get to the General tab and then the Updates tab to check to see if I’ve got a new Progam update. The problem is with this newer version. It worked fine in the previous version. You’re not understanding what I’m saying. This causes me alot of stress.

To get to updates via the UI use Menu, Settings, Update.

If there’s a notification, that will also show up in the system tray via a red exclamation mark.
If You’re using the “Do not Disturb” setting, then you’re asking not to be disturbed.

I have free Avast and don’t have Menu, Settings, Update. I go to the cog wheel in the upper right corner of the DND or Software Updater pages to get to the General Tab and then the Updates tab and check it that way. It did work tonight. This newer version sucks. It tells me I have a notification sometimes and then I don’t know where to find it to read it and cancel it. Avast needs to get their crap together with their free Avast.

Sorry but even the free version has a Menu in the upper right part of the UI.

@beckyrutecki. This is what it looks like in Avast Free:

That doesn’t show Menu which the user was questioning. The rest is virtually the same.

My free version DOES NOT have Menu or settings in the upper corner. Now I keep getting blue notifications and don’t know where to find the notification messages. I’m sick of this rotten stinking free Avast and I’m going to unistall it. All it is is a PIA and doesn’t work right. Too many bugs!! Avast sucks.

What operating system and what version of Avast are you usingy.

Windows 7 and free Avast newest version. It sucks. Bugs in it. Previous version worked fine.

@beckyrutecki.
If you post a screenshot of what your seeing in your installation UI it could help.
