User log off on XP

I notice when I log off a red circle with a line thru it shows up on my Avast icon in system tray. Does that mean it gets shut off when I log off? I have DSL and always connected to the net and want to be protected.

Yes, when you log back on it should I presume start again. I only notice this when I shut down, it is what windows does, close programs prior to shutdown, so I presume the same is true of logging off.

If you have DSL always connected why would you log off (and not shutdown)?
What happens to your firewall when you log off, because that is more likely to provide protection from unauthorised (if you aren’t logged on who is to connect) outbound/inbound connections.

David, no need to worry, as far I know. The icon is shutdown (ashdisp.exe) but avast services continue to protect the user even if no user is logged.
Firewall, if started as a system processes, won’t be shut down when you logof.

Pebbles, everything is ok 8)
