usiGetSkin Failed

Hi, I’m sorry for persist.
One man has a trouble, because avast! can’t load skin: “unknown error message”, “Application cannot load skin. Function usiGetSkin Failed”.
Also he has note in log: “ActiveSkin not installed or not registered properly”.
He tried to fix it in command prompt:
START → RUN… → C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
but it didn’t work.
He tried to repair and to reinstall avast!, but it isn’t helpfull, nothing change.
He has OS - Windows XP SP 2, before he have had KAV6 (Kaspersky Lab).
Thanks.

Which was the error message?

Did he properly uninstall KAV?

Tech, thanks. I’ll ask him about error message.
KAV he uninstalled properly, he used KL StreamRemover to remove KAV6 definitively.

The error message was: “Error DllRegisterServer в ACTSKIN4.OCX. Returned code: 0x80020009”.
In \DATA\log\Error he has note: “Error in library avUInt: ActiveSkin not installed or not registered properly”.
But, when he installed avast! he had choiced to install skins. Now he can’t choose some another skins (I mean any). avast! works properly, but he can’t switch on various appearances in Simple User Interface Window. All he has is Simple User Interface without any skin. :o

Please, search the board for 80020009 keyword. Some of them could help you.
The problem is on the registry of the slin library

If avast! works properly as you say, you can use ashSimp2.exe (the skinless interface) meanwhile.

Maybe you can follow:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again by this command on the folder you’ve donwload and save the install file: setupeng.exe /forceinstall
Where setupeng.exe is the name of the executable.

If the advice by Tech doesn’t work.

For some system for what ever reason the active skin just wont work, why is unknown. For some another skinning program, like windows blinds, etc. has also had some adverse effect.

For some reason, ActiveSkin (the 3rd party library avast uses for skinning) does not seem to be working on your system. As a workaround, we may disable skinning in avast - that should solve the problem. Program Settings, Common, and uncheck any option with skins mentioned (see image, avast-no-skin).

If you are unable to access the above you can do this manually. To do that, open the file \data\avast4.ini, look up the [UserInterface] section, and add the following entry: StartWithSkin=0

I’m sorry, I’ve searched for keyword’s “skin”, “usiGetSkin”. Searching for “80020009” much more helpfull.
Thanks.

But did you manage the problem or not?
If you need further help, just ask

No, I didn’t manage the problem, he doesn’t answers while.
While he doesn’t answer I’m searching my Windows registry (I don’t have such problem) with regedit.exe for skin HKEY’s. I think it can help.
Tech, thanks that your take an interest in it.
