Using ADNM with mixed W2K & XP Network - won't deploy to XP

We are using W2K3 SP1 R2 Server as a workgroup server (not domain controller) with 4 client PCs. Two clients are W2K Pro, the other two are XP Pro SP2.

ADNM sees all the machines including XP machines but cannot determine the OS on the XP machines, and always fails deployment to them. W2K machines get deployed to flawlessly. Was once able to somehow get one (of two) XP Pro machines to accept deployment, but it does not get updated.

Is there some default service/setting on XP Pro that must be enabled/disabled/configured in order for ADNM to see/deploy to it?

I’d be happy to upload logs, etc. if they would help determining the problem.

Turn off the xp firewall and try again. I`m guessing but your probably getting an xxxx000005 access denied error?

av-outsource

  1. on your xp machines you need an account that has admin rights.
  2. the machine who will install remotely the avast have to know the username and password.
  3. on target machine you need the default share admin$

some tools, disable this share…

hope it helps

We are not using the Windows XP firewall.

We use ZoneAlarm Security Suite, within which we have designated the range of addresses are use on the local network as “Trusted”.

All machines have the same administrator password.

I don’t know what else to look for.

OK  Can you check you added all the exclusions for file sharing and also communication ports for avast as per the manual?

i have find out more possible pitfalls.

when the WORKGRPOUPS are different it get an 0000x005 error.

after i moved the destination machine to the WORKGRPOUP of the ADNM system, it runs… (i have to wait until 10 minutes, that the WINS get the information)
all runs fine after that.

hope i could help.

I disabled windows brandmower (or firewall) service on XP, and it helped.
We haven’t other firewalls. If they presents i think they must be disabled too, and maybe XP need to reboot to kill them in memory.
And also admin account must present and be active.
