using avast! Home ed. i can't do aynthing about my viruses!

I try to delete them, i try to move them, i try everything it seems, but avast always “Fails” to fix it… what can i do to fix this problem???

well, i had 3 Trojans, now 2 of them are move to quarantine, but there is one that wont move: Win32: Trojan-gen {other} and the name of the file is: WPA_Kill.exe :o

Run avast at boot time and process the files (sending to Chest) from there, i.e., schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Also, it will be good running MBAM and/or SuperAntispyware to get rid of them.

BazW , where is the trojans located? (ex c:\program\blah blah)

But a boot scan as Tech suggested is a good start, and MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware is good software to get rid of malware.

What reason was given for not being able to deal with wpa_kill.exe ?

The boot-time scan that Tech mentioned can usually get round these reasons.

but thx for the quick support and everything. I’ve scheduled a boot scan and so on… now i’m gonna install the antispyware!

Disable System Restore on Windows ME, XP or Vista. System Restore cannot be disabled on Windows 9x and it’s not available in Windows 2k. After disabling you can enable it again.

Hi BazW,
System restore is a feature of Windows XP (and some other OS) found by going to “start>all programs>accessories>system tools” and on that list is system restore. Quite a useful feature.
Any file found in “system volume information” is generally one that’s in a system restore point.
To turn off system restore, go to “control panel> system” and click the system restore tab. Tick the checkbox for “turn off system restore on all drives”. Reboot, turn it back on.
You will loose all prior restore points, so only do this if the 'pooter is running OK.
You will also loose the malware within the infected restore point.
