Hi,
I was surfing the web (specifically the www.msn.ca website) and I was prompted to download a file that contained the text “usync.nexage.com”. I clicked cancel to make sure it doesn’t download but when I open the download area of Microsoft Edge, it says it’s “waiting to download”. When I return to the msn.ca website the same thing happens everytime, when I close the browser the download is aborted. I even had this download prompt me on another website (I forget what the website was).
When I did a quick google search, I found this site that says it’s malware:
http://easyremovalguide.com/2018/05/remove-usync-nexage-com-quickly/
I followed the instructions for manual removal of the virus but I have no extensions to delete (I use Microsoft Edge), none of the registry items it lists show up on my computer and there has been no recent software installed on my computer. I assume that I might be okay (since I didn’t download anything, this makes sense) but I notice that the guide on the website says to install a program called “Spyhunter” and “RegcurePro”. Since Spyhunter is an expensive program I didn’t want to use it.
My question is that if this perticular virus was hiding somewhere on my PC, would avast be able to find and delete it? As well, I also use malwarebytes free and was hoping that it would also be able to find and delete it. If someone could shed some light as to what I should do, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!
Steve
