It seems that there is some discussion about V1451 having problems and some of the responces have been to do a Avast clean-up, uninstall, and reload, or downgrade to V.1426…
I have never had any problems with Avast and just yesterday even went to this site, so…
Can someone here provide a link to the V.1426 software?
avast! Free (7.0.1426): http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php?old_avast=7370
Thank you…
Now to get my other PC back up and running…
You’re welcome.
Funny thing, we got an update some minutes ago, which fixes the problem as well.
Well you could always update to avast 7.0.1456 (service program update), see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100608.0;topicseen.
My Avast just informed me of the update V.1456…
Now to see the results…
… Nope, still crashing IE…
so… Back to the downgrade…
What version of IE are you using ?
Personally I would try a clean install of the latest 7.0.1456 version download and save to hard disk, http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe. I assume you are using the free version, toy didn’t say.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
-
- Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

OK, that may help you helpfull people out…
SO: Vista Home
IE 9…
One question tho…
How do I force vista to boot into safe mode???
I only get that option when I (it) has problems…
Depends on your system (laptop may use a different function key), but pecking away at the F8 key whilst the system is booting should throw up the option to boot into safe mode.
- Booting into safe mode http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml.
Well… F8 didn’t help, so I tried the tried and true method…
I turned it off, and when it booted up, it took me to the safe boot option…
Uninstalled V.1456, rebooted, and inatalled V. 1426…
Now I’m back on-line with my desktop PC…
Thanks for the help.
You’re welcome.
Personally I would have tried a clean reinstall to the latest version first to see if it was a failed/corrupt install at the root of the problem.
Me too… Downgrade is always problematic with a software that is continuously moving on…
True, but if it gets me online, I’ll go for the downgrade…
I’ll wait a bit then upgrade after V1456…
