I have just done a clean install of the latest version.
When i try to scan (quick and Full)my computer freezes and i have to do a forced restart which i have done 2 or 3 times
This only happens with my Windows 7 computer.XP computer scans perfectly.
Help would be appreciated
Thank you
Possibly related to the new antirootkit module.
Please try creating a custom scan with no antirootkit (no rootkit “area” in the Area selection). If that one doesn’t freeze, try adding a rootkit area (either Quick or Full) and retry. If it freezes this time, it’s obviously related.
Many thanks
Vlk
Maybe it’s x64 Windows7. Scan on 32bit Windows7 works great.
It’s a relatively isolated incident. We believe it’s a conflict with something else running on the computer, but so far, we unfortunately haven’t been able to find out what it is.
Anyway, we have seen a machine or two where it’s happening on 32-bit Windows 7 as well.

Thanks.
I have tried your suggestion.
I regret it makes no difference.
For the moment i will go back to the earlier version until problem is corrected
So, even a scan with no rootkit area freezes the system?
Or what exactly doesn’t make a difference?
One other thing is that the freeze could have also been caused by the rootkit scan that automatically runs in background roughly 10 minutes after boot. Does your system freeze 10 minutes after boot, even if you don’t manually run any scans?
Thanks
Vlk
It freezes 3/4 seconds after the scan has started otherwise there are no problems
Thanks
I did everything as you said and nothing works for me.
congratulations! you released the final version!
and I do that? change antivirus?
Does the whole system freeze on its own, or just when you run a scan?
The manual scan freeze thing should hopefully be solved by a VPS update later today, so just don’t run a scan and you should be fine…
It freezes 3/4 seconds after i have started the scan.
I have also noticed that when o try to open IMGburn the program will not open and the system also freezes.
Thanks for you assistance
I reinstalled the latest version.
This time it is even worse.
Not only does it freeze when scanning but after 1/2 hour of inactivity it freezes by itself and i have to reboot to be able to use the computer.
I must say that i am very disappointed with this latest version never before have i had any problems with Avast.
In the meantime i am using a different AV.
which OS are you running?do you run with 64bit?
Windows 7 32 bit
That’s what I was saying, this only confirms my hypothesis that it’s related to the rootkit scan. There will be a workaround for this in the next VPS update tonight.
Thanks
Vlk
just to mention that I ran today two full scans (preset) on two W7/64 systems without any problem.
Thanks
Thanks.
Please what is VPS short for.Excuse my ignorance
VPS is the virus definitions (database) update.
I’m much obliged.
Thank you
The VPS update has now been released (110101-1). Please update to it and report back if the problem is solved.
Thanks
