v.5 Pro - Features

Hi,

I am considering Avast v.5 Pro. Can someone tell me the following (before I spend time and hassle uninstalling my current a-v, and installing a trial of Avast…)

  1. Can I set Avast v.5 to complete a scheduled scan, and then, at the end of the scan, present me with a list of findings (if any) for me to decide appropriate actions?

In other words, if something suspicious is found during, say, a scheduled system scan, I do not want my anti-virus software to take any action, but to await my instructions; neither do I want it to pause at the first thing it finds (awaiting instruction) but to complete the scan and then present the results for action as necessary.

  1. Can I set Avast v.5 to save a scheduled scan report to the Desktop (or other preferred location) instead of the default folder?

I seem to remember that both of the above features were available in v.4.

I tried sending these questions to the company, but had little success: for item 1, I was referred to the Help files, “How to scan computer”.
For item 2, the answer was “For further analysis of this issue, please attach avast! log and report files…”.

So I came here.

Regards,
s.

When you plan to schedule the scan, do you plan on being at the machine?

  1. Yes, you do have the choice of what action(s) to take. You can also go into Expert Settings to change the default actions and modify them (if you feel comfortable and know what you are doing). The scan does not pause, like it did in 4.0. Instead it gives you the results at the end, then asks you what action you would like to take.

  2. I do not believe a scan report can be saved to the Desktop. It is saved within an area of the Avast GUI as well as the Avast folder.

You can also wait for more feedback from other forum helpers who will be coming on later.

Script Shield works well.

Hi.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I remember, now, that in v.4 the choice wasn’t presented, which is why the report on the desktop was important as a reminder to see what damage might have been done by the scheduled overnight scan.

Hi, again.

There is the facility to save reports to, say, the desktop:

In any of the scan options under “SCAN COMPUTER/Settings…/Report file”, there is a check box labeled, “Generate report file”.

In, e.g., Quick scan", I ticked the box and in the “File name” panel, entered: “c:.…\Desktop\QuickScan report”.

That’s it. Extra to the avast logs, a txt file report appears on my desktop for every Quick scan.

This can be done with each and every scan option.

Cheers,
s.
