v5.0 update issue

latest virus def ffffff-ff ??? ???

Had you done something before avast went like that or have you just installed avast? Iv never seen that one before, don’t know why the alphabet is spread all over your interface either, try a repair though add remove program’s otherwise you might have to reinstall avast.

Don’t worry! As I know it is a bug. It happened to me several times.
If you update, the attention will disappear. But you don’t have to update manually. Wait for the next automatic update, and the attention will disappear.

Hello Sert and best of the season to you:
If you choose not to wait for update and a repair of Avast( as mentioned) doesn’t solve your problem, Please follow these instructions for a ‘clean install’ of Avast .677

Please Download the latest version of Avast, 5.0.677 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free_eng.exe (English only) and save it to your hard drive where you can access it easily.
Then download the Avast Clean up Utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your hard drive where you can access it easily.

Please go to Start/Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs and choose Avast and click Remove and then Uninstall. Once the uninstall process is completed, Reboot your computer and when up and running, Reboot again into ‘Safe Mode’ and find the (aswClear v5) download you saved to your hard drive and run the Clean up tool. Make sure you first choose the version you want to cleanup and then run the tool, your computer will automatically reboot. Once up and running in Normal Mode, Install the latest version of Avast you saved to your hard drive and Walla! All should be fine. Please remember you need to choose the version in the Clean up tool that you have had installed on your system.
NOTE:If you have had both v.4 and v.5 installed, then you need to follow the ‘safe mode’ process twice; once for each version separately.
If you have any problems please feel free to let us know.

Just a question: why?
I think it isn’t a big problem; but it will happen again and again…

Thats fine, if it’s not a big problem for you. I was simply suggesting, if you did not want to wait and a repair did not slove thge problem(as Craigb Suggested) you could do a clean install…You made the innitial post, we assumed you wanted assistance. :-\

schmidthouse, 12-es_csaj did not make the initial post it was sert!

12-es_csaj, if this has happened to you before then you obviously have a problem to and it is not a known bug that iv heard of, the op’s problem is more than just an update notification if you look at the image closly so for the moment it is better to wait for the op to reply so we can get a better understanding to how this happened and then find a resolution.

My appologies, you are correct :o

I don’t want to disturb you guys helping, but just came to tell you that

is nothing but keyboard shortcuts. While you are at the avast interface, hit alt and you will see those alphabets, hit alt again, they will disappear.

Thank you nmb. No worries

Thank’s nmb

You’re welcome guys

@ sert,

If you wait for the next Avast update, see if your problem goes away. Also, a simple reboot of your machine might also do the trick as well if you want the problem fixed sooner. There is no need to uninstall or a clean install of Avast at this point. Please let us know if the Avast update or the reboot fixes your problem. Thank you.

it goes away after next auto update, but it just make me doubt when i see it i’m not sure if anything goes wrong or not.

This is a little bug, but nothing to worry about. Now you know if you see it again what you need to do to fix it.

If you feel that your issue is resolved/fixed, please go back to the first open post in this topic, click the modify button in that Post and change the title/subject, add [Resolved] to the beginning of the title so this thread can be closed.
