Avast 7 and GnuCash crashes Windows 7 home sp1 32bit.
When you try to open GnuCash Avast 7 gives constant popup alerts
rolling up the screen on the right side and when you click terminate
scan on the avast popups Windows 7 takes a core dump and reboots.
FWIW, I had the same problem on Windows 7 Pro SP1. Trying to set Avast to open GNUcash normally didn’t work. The next time I launched GNUcash, Avast ran it in the sandbox, put up a series of warnings scrolling up the right side of the screen, then bluescreened Windows.
I should add: this happened on a completely fresh Windows 7 install – I had just reinstalled the system and a few bits of software. It was a completely new install of both GNUcash 2.4.10 and Avast 7.0.1426.
I have had GnuCash 2.4.10 running with avast! 7.0.1426 for some time now on Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have the auto sandbox of avast! set to “ask” rather than auto, and the first time I ran GnuCash I asked it to open normally and to remember my decision. After this I haven’t had any trouble opening GnuCash. Actually I may have had to do it twice for some reason, I don’t remember now, but haven’t had any problem since.
You might try adding the exceptions manually if that doesn’t work. The exceptions I show in “auto sandbox” are:
C:\Program Files\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe
C:\Program Files\gnucash\libexec\gconfd-2.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\gnucash\libexec\gconfd-2.exe
I’m not sure what “PROGRA~1” is or if those last two are necessary.
