Various Services and whether they should be in firewall's trusted zone

I am using the Netveda firewall. The particular firewall in use is probably not salient to my question(s) I noticed that some of the Avast! Home AV services were in the trusted apps section of the firewall and some were not. I used the Firewall’s search function and found the Web Shield, AshWebSv.exe and added it to the trusted applications zone. When I opened a web page the next time, Netveda told me that a new application, AshWebSv.exe, wanted on the internet.

Does this mean that I was not utilizing the Web Shield until now?

Moreover, should I add all of the .exe apps of the Avast AV to the trusted zone of the firewall ? Maybe I am not using some of the other services properly.

Thanks,

B.

Could be… but as you have XP, it should be there transparently, without user intervention.

No, into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
Other exe files into avast folder.

Thanks! A quick, helpful reply.
