Vaudix (Codec-c) virus. Removal help needed.

So I stupidly downloaded the vaudix virus. Anyway, i ran the logs essexboy suggested and I’ll attach them, but Norton decided that aswMBR.exewas unsafe and deleted it, so i dont have that one. When I first downloaded the file, it wouldnt allow me to delete it because it was “in use” by another program. When I ran malwarebytes, it managed to delete it, but I just want to make sure its completely off the system. Hopefully somebody can help me, thanks in advance!
Also, when i scanned the file with avast!, it didnt pick up a threat. If you need any more information please ask. Thanks.

malware removers are notified…check back later today

according to the MBAM log it is just a PUP…not virus but Possible Unwanted Program

Okay but it was on the computer for quite a while, and it was launched, but nothing happened. I read of cases where when this virus was downloaded, hard drives had to be formatted…just wondering if there are any other precautions I should/can take?
Thank you for your reply.

Nothing readily apparent in the logs, what problems are you experiencing ?

You will need to uninstall either Avast or Norton, this is a time when more is not better

There are no problems, I just wanted to ensure there will be no more down the line. Anything I need do?

Is it ever possible to have more than one antivirus at work on a system?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes you can have two av’s but be prepared for system slowdowns, unexpected freezes/blue screens and missed malware being installed as they fight over who is in charge ;D

Goodbye Norton.

You will need this then https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

I can’t just control panel>programs and features>Norton>uninstall?

Thanks.

Stay away from installing a Codec C ad-ware virus program which comes to you as a new plug-in to download to watch online streaming videos, the uninstall of which is creating the real Vaudix problems. Two resident av programs is a bad idea really. It is like two dogs supposed to protect youe house starting to fight amongst each other…they won’t protect much then…

polonus

Polonus, as far as I can tell, it didn’t install for some reason. I had no google chrome or internet explorer add-ons, and it wasnt displayed in programs or features, as others were experiencing. Do you think I’m safe?

Thank you.

you run the removal tool after to be sure any leftover files that may conflict are gone…

Thanks Pondus, I ran that.
One last question, will Windows Defender conflict with avast!?

Thank you all.

no, but as it is not that good, most of us turn it off and use mawarebytes
malwarebytes also have a pro version that give you autoupdate and a protection module
a one time fee for a liftime license.
